To Market To Market

Tomorrow is the first Handmade Children’s Market and I’m quite looking forward to it. I’ve sold my Polyclarific jewellery at a few other markets but this is the first time I’m selling just my cake and cupcake toppers.

Today I have baked two cakes and some cupcakes (to be iced tonight):

These will be display cakes to show my toppers on real cakes.

All the bits and pieces I need to make up my display are ready to go (for the most part).

And I managed to get two more lots of girly cupcake toppers done in time, ladybugs and flowers.

I still have a few things to do but am almost there. The market details are:

Screeeeeech! Thats the sounds of a full halt with these cupcake toppers. I got this far over the weekend before everyone got sick (or worn out). I hope to resume normality again very soon.

I’m catching up on yesterday’s blog post. Once again we’ve had a fair bit of sickness in our house, this time its me with a very long lasting cold and Miss K with a stomach bug. Its meant a few things have been on hold including blogging. So this is my photo of the day for yesterday. These are also for the upcoming market in September and are cupcake toppers.

The other day I showed a photo of me slicing up rainbows. Well here are the results. After slicing I shaped them, added a cocktail stick, baked them, sanded them and buffed them. Lots of work goes into each one. These are cupcake toppers for anyone having a colour or rainbow themed party. Best for kids aged 8 and up I think (or with supervision).

This is me slicing rainbows. Actually I’m slicing rainbow cupcake toppers ready for the market in September and ended up making around 30 of them. These will be $3 each and you will be allowed to mix and match different cake toppers if you like. I’m still to sand them but will share the finished product soon.

This pair of cowboy boots is my latest cake topper. It stands at around 7cm tall and in this pic its yet to be sanded and buffed. I quite like the way this one came out. The shoes are hand shaped using ‘scrap’ clay (grey in colour) and then a thin veneer of leather brown was carefully placed on top. I really enjoyed making these and can see quite a few other pairs of shoes in my collection. Let me know if you would like a price list and I’m happy to email you one.

The other day I needed to make a cake so I made four cupcakes with some of the mix. The aim of this was so I’d have an actual cupcake to take these photos. The cake was for my neighbour’s Dad who fixed our oven for us for free (we paid for parts but that was all). He was a lifesaver! For his hard work I made him a chocolate cake.

The rest of the family also benefited from this cake making exercise because they got to have a chocolate cupcake for dessert that night.

So, these are a couple of the photos using that cupcake. The rest can be seen here.

I’ve been busy in-between moving the entire house around making some more cupcake toppers. I will be selling the cupcake and cake toppers (well, taking orders) at the Handmade Children’s Market in Melville this September. The details are:

The little cars are currently available in blue but could be done in any colour and the little crown too. It would be great if you came along to say hello.
