A few months ago my friend Sarah came up with the idea of an Opshopathon for my birthday this year. She knows I have an absolute love of trawling through op shops for bargains and treasures and she shares the same passion. So, she put together an invitation with a list of a few *op shops in a similar area in Perth and I sent it around. Being the end of the year a fair few of my friends had other things they needed to do or go to which is totally understandable but in total there were five of us. That worked out well as we could go in one car.
I had such a good time, it was a shame that the last two or three were closed by the time we got there but we all got bargains! I loved my friend Jody’s hat and suitcase, Jocelyn got some great clothes for her kids. Sarah got some videos amongst other things and Taryn and I had a ball trying on veils for her sister’s hens night (she got one in the end!). My stash was fantastic and I have to say a big thanks to the girls as they, along with my friend Narelle who couldn’t come this time paid for my treasures. I must say, this was one of the most fun birthdays I’ve had so far!! Good on you Sarah for coming up with such an original idea!
I’ve put a few pics below of our stash and my friends as well as a closer look at what I scored! I know theres a fabulous photo on Sarah’s camera of Taryn with the veil on and myself with my lamp shade on my head so if I can get a hold of that I might post it later.
*for my US and UK friends these are thrift and charity stores

My stash altogether, except a lamp shade that was already up

Knitting pattern for leg warmers and mittens!

Doilies, perfect for embellishing t-shirts
I also got (you can see in the top photo) lego, an IKEA ironing board, fingerpaint and a pair of bathers for Little L. So, thanks for coming ladies and thanks Sarah for organising it. It was such fun and as my friend Jody said, this was the ‘inaugural’ opshopathon which means we’ll just have to do it again next year!!

What great idea and some good finds, well done!
Funnily I bought one of those ironing boards from my local op shop the other day too!
So glad you had a good time (the main aim of the event), and I’m so glad I could do that for you. It was heaps of fun! Here’s to many more opshopathons (God willing).
cool idea thanks for showing your stash
