10 Things That Make Me Happy

My friend Sarah tagged me with this meme so here’s the 10 things that make me happy:

1. My family – spending time in deep conversation or laughing with my hubby or watching the girls play and laugh. This also includes the part of my family that lives in Cairns. I miss them every day.

2. God. He’s always there. He lets me be mad at him and still loves me. He comforts me and reminds me of who I am when I’m down.

3. Creativity. I just love it when an original idea works and if it doesn’t I love the process.

4. Photography – I’m addicted to taking photos.

5. Mail. I just love getting mail, well the good sort anyway. In Africa the mail wasn’t delivered to our house but whenever our guard rode up to our house I had a 2 second ‘wishful thinking’ moment that it was being delivered, his bike sounded just like the postie!

6. Travel – love it.

7. Tea, a simple cup of tea can be a life saver.

8. Op Shopping – love finding a bargain.

9. Music – all sorts but I do love listening to Keith Green, Steven Curtis Chapman or Newsboys.

10. Friends – I have some wonderful, supportive, encouraging friends. Love em!

Ok, I’m tagging Narelle and Jody. Looking forward to seeing what you write.

Photo of the Day – August 30/ Theme of the Week: Fruit

This past week is one that I’d rather forget but about half way through we managed to focus in on our theme for about half an hour. The theme I had chosen for this week was fruit but the girls, especially Miss K were so sick that it wasn’t until about Wednesday that we got to do anything that focused in on it.

After being tired of laying on the lounge for much of the week Miss K requested some gluing so I got out my colourful paper and cut fruit out. The two of them sat there and made what looked like bowls of fruit on their paper for a while.

As they were doing this I downloaded some fruity songs on youtube including (of course) Justine Clarke’s ‘Watermelon’

We also listened to The Wiggles ‘Fruit Salad’:

as well as a few other fruit songs such as this one, a Sesame Street classic!

It was about that time when the girls, especially Miss K had had enough and it was time to lie on the lounge again. Thankfully this week they seemed to talk about fruit a lot on playschool. I left the house only to take Miss K to the Dr and quickly over to the school for her school photos so we didn’t even get to take any books out of the library about fruit or cut any actual fruit up ourselves (she was off her food most of the week!). I’ve decided to extend the theme into this week, its such a good theme and I don’t think we really explored it properly. Here they are with their gluing fun and the results:

This is Miss K playing with her baby doll, the crib is a fulani hat! How many 4 year olds have a fulani hat to use for such play? What’s a fulani hat you say? To answer that question its best if you take a look at this article. We picked this up when we spent a year in Niger with SIM in 2000-2001. I can’t believe it was 10 years ago this month that we started our year of teaching at Sahel Academy. Time goes so fast!

The other day I mentioned that my parents had given me some flowers. When they arrived these lilies were closed but have now opened, just so gorgeous! They are cheering up our room now and I really love them!!

Friday Focus – Friday August 27 – Reliance

This has been one of those weeks where I have been rushing around after sick family members as well as being sick myself. I really don’t like weeks like this, they seem such a waste of time. My focus today is on nothing more than getting better so my focus is very fuzzy. I have so much to do and organise. We have Father’s Day coming up, Miss K’s birthday party to organise, 26 friends and family are having birthdays between now and the end of October and I have a market to be ready for in a week. Really I should be doing some prep for some of it tonight but I might need a Berocca first.

There is one thing that I’ve learnt this week. I’m not supermum. Eventually I will snap. Yes I lost my temper and threw the wobby of all wobblies last night and then of course felt very very bad afterwards. In amongst this though I am surprised about something. In the past if I had a week like this one I would almost beg God to make it all go away, this time however I found myself saying ‘give me strength, this is going to rough’. Its only when I was distracted from leaning on God that I got frustrated and in a big muddle. Its not quite over yet, Miss K isn’t really herself and I’m worn out but we’ll get there.

I’d love to read what you’ve learnt this week, feel free to join in on the blog hop and use the banner at the top.

Spring officially begins next week but our garden is already in full spring swing. Loving the randomness of it all with a mix of vegetables, herbs and flowers in this shot. The wisteria on the front fence has come out beautifully too. Considering hayfever kicked in about a month ago for me I don’t have that spring dread, only flowers to look forward to!

Poor Little L. This week has been mostly about Miss K and getting her better although Little L has a slight cold now. This was a moment when we got outside while Miss K was dozing on the lounge. I’ll be very happy when this week is over and the girls are both well again (and ourselves). Its no fun having sickness in the house but this was a nice moment of sunshine amongst it all.

My parents sent me and the girls these flowers to help us all feel better. What a really nice surprise!
