Doll’s House Renovations – Baby Furniture

A few weeks ago I wrote about a few flat packs I found with doll’s house furniture. Miss K has completed the second lot of furniture now, we are getting closer to the finished house. She has also made a lot more food for her dolls house recently so they won’t be going hungry!

After putting the furniture together and letting the glue dry for a couple of days she got to paint it. She loves this part the best and did a really great job of it.

The cot and horse were painted the same colour as the cot and horse in our house. She wanted to paint a white high chair and green bed so they matched her bed and Miss L’s chair but somehow ended up with red and pale blue. She did a fantastic job and really stuck at it. Actually she usually does stick at these sorts of things and refuses to stop until its all done. I’m so pleased at how this turned out. Each piece of furniture totaled 50c each in this pack.

And heres some of the food she’s been making lately, copying a lot of what I’ve been doing:

Photo of the Day – June 30

30 Days has September, April, June and November………..yep today is the last day of June. It marks the middle of the year and it means the first month of winter is almost over. I love winter so thats not necessarily a great thing for me.

During our visit to the farm on the weekend we met a lovely horse named Omar. He was so incredibly friendly, almost like a dog at times! Whenever we went outside he would immediately come over to the fence and start pacing for us to come over. I don’t know a lot about horses but I quite liked this one. I took a lot of shots of him and here are a few of them. What’s a farm without a horse!

I just love macro photography. Its so much fun to explore things up close and see just how much detail God puts into things. My camera does a reasonable job with macro although I’d love one of those fancy shmancy cameras with the long lenses, then I’d have to actually learn all about photography I suppose. Those are ant hills by the way.

Great Idea!

On the way home from our country trip yesterday there was a continual request coming from the back seat, ‘Mummy, I want playground’. Well, considering not a lot of small Western Australian towns have playgrounds and considering that we weren’t stopping that much on the way home I couldn’t really see how that was possible.

The last stop we made was in a town called Bindoon, a pretty spot not far out of the Midland area. Our plan was to visit an op shop there (which was closed) and the famous Bindoon bakery. We’d heard that it had a makeover recently and were keen to have a look. Well, the girls got their wish, the bakery had a ‘playground’ of sorts. It was in fact the best idea I’d seen inside a cafe for a long time. There was a tin of home made playdough in the middle and then you can see for yourself the rest.

Seeing as we were both a bit sick and a bit weary we totally missed the opportunity to point out the connection between the bakery and the baking play centre. Maybe next time!!

Photo of the Day – June 28

This morning not long after I got up I went outside and took some sunrise shots at the farm we were staying at. I just love the difference in the light between sunrise and sunset. Look at the gorgeous tones and colours as the sun rises. Yes, it is as quiet as it looks.

This weekend we spent time at a place called Buntine which is a small town up near Dallwallinu in WA. On Sunday we had a great time relaxing with a picnic at Wubin Rocks. As we went bushwalking we managed to explore, I’ll share a few photos of that later in the week. Can anyone guess what the two marks in the dirt next to Miss K are above?

Don’t you love her style! She’s dancing here with Daddy’s hat on. Miss L will dance at the sound of any music she hears, little groover!

I had to be very quick taking the above photo, you see there were two hungry little girls waiting to try the cake. The girls and I made it together but I wanted to try out some of my cake toppers before we cut into it. You can see from the photo below that she is anxious to eat!

Friday Focus – Friday June 25th

In the last couple of weeks I started to make some very detailed beads using my polymer clay. You may have seen some of them on here. If you’ve seen any of my sketches you will also know that they are usually full of detail. Yep, I’m a details person. Why is this a good topic for focus this week? Let me explain.

When I was in primary school, around year 5 I remember being given an art project to do. We had to take a word (eg: sport) and create the word using objects relating to the word (eg: balls, bats, racquets etc). I loved it and was pretty proud of my work but when the teacher saw it she said ‘its too small, needs to be bigger on the page and take up all the white space around it’. At the time I took this to mean ‘focusing in on detail is wrong, you need to loosen up’. I’m fairly sure that this wasn’t her intention at all but for many years after that I spent a lot of time trying to ‘loosen up’ in my artwork instead of narrowing it down to the thing I am naturally geared towards – detail. In art school I spent much time doing the same thing, attempting to be something I wasn’t and loosening up, they called it ‘stepping outside of your comfort zone’.

Now, I’m all for stepping outside your comfort zone, having a go at things we might be afraid of and all that but I see nothing wrong with finding our niche and going with it. I believe that God has made those who are brilliant and natural at ‘loosening up’ (and those people often are very uncomfortable with detail) and he has made those of us geared more towards the details. The same thing applies to every area of life. We all know people we would regard as a ‘people’ person, we all know those who thrive working in the background, there are those who do great under pressure, those who are natural with numbers and those who can arrange flowers without blinking.

I believe that God has put all these gifts/talents/skills into people because without them we’d not function very well. We can’t all be big picture people but we can’t all be ‘details’ people either. I have discovered that its ok to be who you are. Its ok for me to focus in on detail, I don’t have to have ‘loose’ strokes in my work. I don’t have to like every piece of art I see. I don’t have to be great with contemporary abstraction. I just need to be me.

I’m glad that God made each of us different, we are able to compliment each other, bounce off each other and encourage each other in what we do.

Ecclesiasties 3:1
‘There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:’
