Miss K’s Kindy has a special bear called ‘Mr Bear’ who goes home with a different Kindy kid each week. She’s been waiting for her turn for a while and talks about ‘when I bring Mr Bear home…..etc..’ a lot. Well it was her turn last week and we’ve had an extra bear in the house for the weekend.
Miss K has lots of teddies, she has her special two that she sleeps with and a huge pile that seems to have accumulated since she was born but Mr Bear was different. Mr Bear comes with a scrapbook and a bag with some clothes and the kids are encouraged to draw a picture and describe their adventures with the bear (for me to write). They are meant to do this right at the end of the bears stay but as soon as we got home from Kindy she was into it right away.
She has been on a bit of a buzz all weekend. Mr Bear was a model for many of her drawings, a model for playdough sculpture, she made a polymer clay necklace of Mr Bear for her teacher (and one for her). He watched her paint, slept next to her in bed, was dressed each morning, went on several adventures to the shops, went to Poppas house, had an ice cream a donut and most of her food. He went to the park and played on the horsey rides, went to church, red rooster and had his clothes set out for him each night by Miss K. What an amazing imagination starter he turned out to be!
I think this was a wonderful idea. I spent much of this afternoon mosaic-ing and printing out photos from our weekend so when Miss K woke up from her nap she helped me cut them out and we stuck them all on her two pages. She told me what she wanted to write about each day Mr Bear visited here and then asked me to write out the words ‘Goodbye Mr Bear’ which she copied onto the page too.
Miss K has a great Kindy teacher and I’m so amazed how sending home one little bear can kick off her imagination so much! I can’t wait for her teacher to see all that we got up to with Mr Bear this weekend and for Miss K to give her the necklace she made.
