Look Alikes

Every now and then I do a little calculation and work out exactly what date Miss K was the same age as Miss L is now. Then I go back through my photos, of which there are literally thousands and have a look at whether they look similar. This time I was quite surprised. This is Miss L now, at 21 months;

Here is Miss K at the same age:

The last two are with her friend Lexy.

Looks like they are quite similar and share similar expressions too. Miss K’s eyes look darker in that top photo but they’re not, its just the light. So interesting to have a look back. Oh and while I’m at it, I found this sweet shot of Miss K aged two and a half, awwwww, I hardly remember her looking this way now!

Look what God made.

Isn’t he clever!

Peanut Miracles

Are you a person who believes in miracles? I mean really believes in them? I am, I believe that God is able to do the impossible, after all he says it in the Bible (Luke 1:37 For nothing is impossible with God.). I also believe strongly in prayer and that God hears us. He doesn’t always do what we want him to do but then why should he, he’s God and knows whats best for us (considering he knows the bigger picture).

The other day we were at a friends place for lunch. We had a really nice time and enjoyed a BBQ together. The kids played and had a ball on their trampoline while her kids giggled at ours. After lunch we went inside to take the lunch things in while my friend made a cup of tea for everyone. She had some bikkies ready for us to eat with our tea (yummy home made and some chocolate ones) which the kids took out to the table for us. There was glad wrap on the bikkies but by the time we got out there (about 1 minute later) each kid had downed a choccy bikkie each.

I looked at the biscuit and on closer inspection realised there were peanuts in them. Miss K has an epipen and is highly allergic to peanuts. Our allergist appointment is next week and we are getting Miss L tested also (she’s not been checked yet). As soon as I said the word ‘peanuts’ Miss K spat out what was in her mouth but she said she had swallowed a mouthful of the biscuit and the peanuts were throughout.

I knew this day would come. She’s four and a half and we’ve had an epipen since she was around 6 months old and has not had an anaphylactic shock reaction yet.

Strangely I was calm. I was worried yes but not panicky. I can only explain this as God taking over. I knew we had her epipen in the bag but I watched her waiting for her to puff up and start getting out of breath.

Nothing.

No reaction.

Miss L – no reaction.

They went on happily playing as if nothing was wrong at all. Now, in a weeks time when I take them for their testing it will show that her allergy has either reduced, disappeared altogether or that this was a miracle. The thing is, if she still has her allergy then its a miracle, if she doesn’t then praise God, he’s answered my prayers! There is only a 20% chance of her allergy disappearing.

So, was it a miracle of God protecting her? Not sure yet but either way, he’s looking after her and I can only praise him for that. I know people usually respond to something like this with ‘oh, you are so lucky nothing happened’. No. Luck has nothing to do with it at all, all credit goes to God.

The next morning Miss K woke up with a little sniffle and she said ‘see Mummy, I ate peanuts and I’m sick!’. How sweet.

Oh and to my friend, you don’t need to worry about this, it happens easily and the responsibility is mine. God protected my daughter and we can praise him for that together.

I just love this photo. The girls were playing together so beautifully, tickling each other and giggling. They do seem to get along quite well most of the time however Little L is the boss for the most part! They are quite opposite to each other in most things so maybe that gives them a better chance not to compete. I hope so , it would be really great if they grow up as friends.

Play, Play and More Play

We Play

Today is the only day in-between a whole lot of other days where we have no appointments or meetings etc… This means it was a good one for staying home and playing. Here’s a bit of what we’ve done so far today:

Lots and lots of dressups

Dressups and Doctors

Playdough

Miss K made a whole lot of food using ‘mummy’s playdough’ or fimo

This is her banana, she looked at a real one as she made it. She told me that bananas are not yellow but yellow, brown and black

Her sausages

Here she made apples, tomatoes, cheese and lettuce.

And finally, a birthday cake.

We also sang a lot of songs, played with the dolls house and I threw in a few fimo cupcakes and plates to be baked for her. This afternoon may involve playing outside, watching a DVD or making muffins, depending on what they’re like when they wake up (any second now). What a great fun morning!

I just love playing with Miss K’s hair and trying to remember different styles my friends and I used to do in each others hair as kids. Miss K’s hair comes out like spun gold when washed and brushed. This was one of those braids where you use two strands instead of three. So pretty!

Photo of the Day – April 27

There is progress! Our seeds are sprouting like mad, well there is only one in this shot but the shot below shows them as of day 7. Its been exciting for the girls to see the seeds sprout which reminds me, I must walk them out to the greenhouse again tomorrow to see how they’re coming along. We got Miss K a shiny red watering can the other day to replace the plastic one she had. Mainly so that little L has one to use too and also because the top of that watering can keeps coming off (ok for pretending). Our garden is really sprouting at the moment which is really nice to see.

Mending

Mending. Now theres something we don’t do a lot of these days. We seem to have forgotten the skill of darning socks (most socks aren’t ‘darnable’), patching holes and resewing on buttons. It seems like such an annoying job when clothes are so cheap and often you can find decent ones for a dollar or two at the op shop (thrift store). I’ve had two of Miss L’s dresses in a washing basket in my laundry ready to be repaired for a while now.

The first one was such a pretty dress, one of those pink flowy party type dresses with a layer of sheer fabric on the top. Well about a month and a half ago she wore it to an event and stood on the sheer fabric, ripping it from the seams. By the time we left the entire front half of the dress was hanging down. I was scared to fix it because of the type of fabric but it turned out not to be hard.

This is the second dress. That black mark is oil paint after little miss curiosity stuck her hand in my paint box one day. Nothing was going to budge that mark so I decided on a different route. I made a little rosette out of ribbon and sewed it over the spot. I know its not an exact match but its an improvement and the dress is now wearable again. Trouble is, both the dresses are summer ones and we are hurtling towards winter. Ah well, better late than never. I just hate the idea that a whole dress is written off because of one black smudge. At least someone else might get to wear it at some point in the future.

Photo of the Day – April 26

These are our very first batch of olives. Miss K helped me to gather them and she kept saying ‘are they grapes?’. I was quite surprised to see that they’d ripened up after our endeavours to protect them from the birds using chicken feed bags (which are opaque, see here). While I was checking them I replaced the bags with some net-like curtaining from my Mum-in-law. These will allow the light in but still protect them from the birds.

Now we just need to work out what to do with the olives!
