Etsy WA Meetup

Monday we had another meet-up with different sellers from Etsy here in Western Australia. Its always fun to swap ideas and information but also to have a good chat. I had to take L with me and the pram made it a bit crowded but I think she enjoyed the day too! Can you believe I had one here at my place in June but was running around so much I got no photos! Here’s the pics from the meet-up:

Double Pointed Needles

For a while now I’ve been avoiding using double pointed needles. They just looked too difficult, how on earth was I supposed to hold four needles at once! Well, I decided to knit L a hat and scoured the free patterns I had on-line before finding one that seemed to be DPN-free (in Australian Knitting magazine). I cast on, knitted following the pattern when all of a sudden it said ‘change to double pointed needles’!!!!!!!Ahhhhhhhhhh! Oh well, I guessed that would be day I’d try it so bought the right size and proceeded. The lady in the wool shop gave me a few tips which were very helpful too (Yarns on Collie).

Well, after dropping a few stitches as they tumbled off the end I wasn’t focusing on I got into the swing of things. Admittedly there are a few holes here and there but I suppose thats expected for the first time. Here it is in progress:

Yesterday I finished the hat, it was for a 12 month old but even with L’s larger head its quite big. Still, at least it will fit her for a long time. Its meant to have a big pointy top so it looks right I think, here’s the finished product:

Late Happy Birthday Michael

It was my hubby’s birthday the other day but I haven’t had the thought to wish him a happy one (on here) until now. I’ve been a bit sick for the last 48 hours but think I’m on the up. Because his Dad and he have their birthdays so close together (happy birthday for tomorrow!) we celebrated with his parents yesterday. We had a nice time, very easy going considering the tiredness and not feeling great. We ordered Hans cafe takeaway (yum!) and I made a cake. My first cake was a miserable failure, it didn’t rise at all so I made a second one. We had the first one at home with the girls on his actual birthday (still tasted good).

His Mum and Dad gave him the seasons of LOST so we settled down after lunch while the girls slept to watch a few episodes from the beginning. Not a bad way to celebrate really. There is more to come, his ‘real’ present hasn’t come yet and I know he’ll like it! Happy birthday honey!! xx

Strange Comment

Out yesterday pushing the pram around at the shopping centre I was heading towards Medicare along a long ramp. I knew there was someone behind me because I thought they were walking very close, like you do when trying to get past. Finally the man was able to go around me and as he passed he said the strangest thing….’Hey short lady’ and kept walking. I was gob-smacked once again, what a strange thing to say. I think it was quite offensive, probably more that he felt the need to say something like that to a complete stranger. The weird thing was that he too was headed to Medicare and I ended up using the teller he’d just used. Very odd thing. Has anyone else ever had strange comments like that thrown at them out of the blue?
