Child’s Play

Ever since K was able to crawl she’s been great at entertaining herself. She seems to enjoy independent play and has no trouble creating stories or finding something to do. Its meant to be winter here but at the moment its a lot more like spring so yesterday we went out the front and she dragged her hopscotch mat out by herself. Before I knew it she was throwing down a stone and attempting to hop on it. I had no idea she knew how to do that.

She went to find a different stone to use and got distracted by a bucket of water and before I knew it we had a neatly lined up group of mud pies (although she called them pancakes). She loves mud and dirt and playing in it is something she can do for hours.

And of course she couldn’t resist a little chalk on the pavement drawing too:

This was mostly while L slept so it gave me the opportunity to work on this;

I’ll be blogging about it later.

I need your opinion

As I mentioned previously I am planning on opening up a new shop. Before I do this (and as part of my new action plan) I need your opinion. I have quite a lot of artwork to choose from which I have done over the last 10 years or so. Only some of it is uploaded to my flickr account but I have selected the ones on there which I think may make good prints. There are 25 in all.

Please note that flickr squares the images and many of these are rectangular, if you would like to see the full image, please visit this section of my flickr:

All Paintings and Drawings

Please take a look through these images and leave a comment underneath as to which ones you would see as good prints. Which ones would you consider purchasing? I will only be doing A4 and A5 prints to start with (as in copy paper size and postcard size). Thank you for your input.

Paintings to Vote for

If you would like more information about any of them just ask and I’m happy to fill you in (eg; medium, size, inspiration)

More Pram Ramblings

Yesterday I was brave. I caught the bus and train into the city with the girls and skipped K’s usual afternoon nap. You should have seen the pram, loaded to the hilt underneath with supplies for the day with the addition of a little pram skateboard for K to stand on while I push. It resembled a road train really! Our bus stop if opposite our house so after rushing to get ready I was pleased to see that we actually made it in time when the bus came up over the hill. My smile faded though when I realised that we had an ‘old’ style bus for the first part of our journey. In the past this would not have been a problem at all but with my mini road train loaded up and with little L securely sitting in the middle of it I wondered how on earth I was going to get this thing on the bus.

The driver just looked at me and said ‘sorry, its an old bus, you’ll be right won’t you’ followed by ‘theres another bus soon’. I told him that I was not going to wait for another bus, after all its not my fault that they decided on this particular day to use this particular bus and I needed to get going (try explaining to a 3 yr old who is looking forward to the bus and train trip why we are now going back over the road into our house to wait for the next one). He then said ‘well you’ll have to get in the back door then’ so I paid my fare and wheeled up to the back, the driver didn’t move out of his seat and yelled ‘you’ll be right won’t you’ once again. I was amazed at him, the back entrance to the bus was the same as the front, three tall steps. How did he think I was going to get up there. He came down to the door and said can you get it up the steps? Amazed at his lack of helpfulness and willingness to leave us in the cold wind I just looked at him and said ‘no, can you lift the end up?’. He looked at me and said ‘I’m not supposed to do this’ to which I said ‘well I’ve paid my fare and its not my fault this is an old bus and I’m getting on it’ so he came down and picked up the end of the pram (it wasn’t that heavy and I’d taken off the skateboard) and ‘helped’ me on the bus. Without waiting for us to sit properly or get the pram in a reasonably safe position he took off and the pram nearly toppled over. Crazy bus driver!!!!

Anyway, I had to try to hold K back from falling out of her seat and hold the pram as he sped around the streets (yes he was now in a hurry as I’d made him late). I was determined not to let this spoil our day but it wasn’t a good start. I was happy that Michael was able to pick us up at the return part of our journey so I only needed to go on the train.

I also need to say, that as I realise that in the past Mums had to just take their kids out of the pram and fold it up to take on the bus with them (or even have the driver hang the stroller on the back of the bus!) and now days you can wheel it on and they have a little ramp that comes out for you. I know we have it great compared to the past BUT my gripe is more that if I knew this would happen (like was expected in the past) I would have been prepared, instead I was prepared for the newer bus and transperth was not prepared for Mums with modern prams. If the driver was more helpful and acted less as if I was annoying him by being there I would not have been so dumbfounded.

Our day was good in the end, wandered the shops, had lunch with Poppa and then went to the Museum. I found some great inspiration there in the butterfly section, I just can’t wait to get some sketches going for some paintings I have in mind. Here’s some photos from our day out:

One Year Ago….

m_img_0673.jpg

We moved into our house! Its hard to believe that its been a year but this day a year ago we had just completed our first 24 hours here. I was heavily pregnant with L and K wasn’t even 3 yet. Time seems to go so fast. We have made a few little changes to the place but not a lot as most of our year has been spent being time and sleep poor. So, happy 1 year house anniversary to us!

Its Finished!

After about 5 weeks of knitting its finally complete! Last night I finished K’s cardigan which I blogged about here. I was pleasantly surprised that it fits and looks ok too. The wool was not variegated but I used up lots of cream, white and beige scraps from my stash. I used the free Effects Cardigan pattern found down-loadable on this page. Now to continue with the afghan and start something new!

Thank you!

Just wanted to write a thank you to everyone who commented on my previous post. I’m so glad that I’m not the only one that was annoyed by that statement. The bit I didn’t mention is that as she said it and was next to me (going in the opposite direction) I said ‘really?’ (and then thought, ‘did I say that out loud?) to which another girl walking behind me said ‘I agree with her!’. Anyway, you are all right, its a ME ME ME society these days and its a real shame. Thank you for your support and encouragement!

I couldn’t believe my ears

Walking through the Fremantle markets on a pleasant long weekend morning we were heading towards the fruit market when I heard this comment…’prams should be banned in here’. The young girl (maybe late teens early twenties) didn’t realise that I was also ‘with’ that pram as I was two steps behind Michael. I couldn’t believe my ears. Sure, prams are a pain, they get in the way and make you have to walk slower to your destination but don’t families have as much right to enjoy the markets as anyone else. How else does she think parents who are enjoying some time out are going to get around with their babies (ok, you could use a sling but thats not everyone’s cup of tea)?

What’s next, ban prams and then wheelchairs, the elderly and their gophers? Since when is it ok to make other people feel like they are in the way? Where is politeness, sensitivity and community spirit?

For those of you who’s first thought was ‘well, yes, that would be better, I agree’ I ask you – if you ban a pram then where would it stop? You might as well put up a big sign that says ‘only people who walk at a decent pace and don’t stop to look at anything in which they hold up the flow of traffic can enjoy this market’. Its just selfishness, stupidity and yes it really annoyed me.

This isn’t the first time that I’ve encountered such an attitude. There are numerous cafe’s and restaurants that do not make life easy for the pram pushing parent. I was once told that I could only sit near the front of the cafe in case of an emergency……only one cafe has said that which is why its just crazy! These things are only going to become easier if people change their thinking and start considering others.

This is very much a ‘rant’ post and considering that I don’t rant too much on here I don’t think it matters. Please, consider mothers with prams, we hate pushing them around thin isles and weaseling our way around crowded shopping centres/markets too but what choice do we have? My pram pushing days are almost over, give me another year at most and its going to a new home!
