Blockage

A pastel from a few years ago

For a long time now I’ve wanted to get out my paints. I used to paint all the time, I even have a BA Arts (painting) and every supply under the sun. I have piles of paint (oil, acrylic, watercolour, goache, pastel etc etc), plenty of canvases (some new, some left over from uni days) and I own about four easels. I have sketches to go by, drawings galore and yet I haven’t really gotten started. I even blogged about this earlier this year here.

So, what is the cause of my non-start? I’ve narrowed it down to a few things;

1. Space – our house is small and there is no place for me to set up anything and leave it there.
2. Smell – I worry about the smell of turpentine or oil paint in a house with young kids (although that’s only half a reason as I could use many other mediums).
3. Saleability – what would I do with all these paintings afterwards? Would they be sellable?
4. Style – I am a perfectionist and yet love the rough, unfinished style similar to that of the impressionists or any charcoal sketch. What style should I do.

Some would say that I should just get the paint out and have a go but perhaps its just not the right time for this yet. In about a year’s time we may move Lucinda into Keziah’s room and we MAY have a spot for me to paint. Perhaps its all about timing. Any theories?

Piles of Polyclay Items

Whenever I am creating something for someone (custom order) or get out the clay for fun I end up with left over clay canes or mixes. These inevitably end up as beads or pendants which inevitably end up in piles in my storage cupboard ready to be made into something one day. Due to my mad months of making last year in preparation for the markets I have masses and multitudes of supplies already made up. This puts a halt on my inspiration to creating more jewellery or the like because I have enough ready to be listed or photographed to last me two years!

So, what to do? I suppose I will just have to keep on storing these piles until such time that they can be sold or given away! Here’s a few shots of some of what’s stored away:
