The ABC’s of SIM Opportunities

I have decided to take up the challenge of going through the alphabet and listing from A-Z some of the opportunities that are available for Christians who are interested in serving God with SIM. There will be quite an array of opportunities so strap yourself in and enjoy!

A is for…..

Administrator in Angola

Do you have gifts in administration and organisation? If so, SIM Angola could use you on our team. You would help us with visa requirements for missionaries and visitors and with financial issues. Help us realise our full potential as an area office and see that our vision for ministry in Angola is fulfilled.

Arsenic Alleviation Programme in Bangladesh

A cup of cold water . . . it sounds so simple, but much of the water in Bangladesh has been contaminated with arsenic. How would you like to provide relief for those whose only source of water causes disease and sickness? God can use you as a coordinator to oversee the Arsenic Alleviation Programme in Kushtia.

Addiction Recovery Counsellor in Mongolia

Here is a great short-term opportunity for experienced counsellors with a heart to train others to work with Celebrate Recovery materials. Addiction recovery counsellors are needed on a short-term basis to increase the knowledge of local trainers. Mongolia.

Three examples of ‘A’ for opportunities around the world for now will do. Look out for the letter ‘B’ coming soon! If you feel that you may be interested in any of these opportunities feel free to contact SIM. You can contact Michael and I here in Western Australia for more information by emailing sim.wa[at]sim.org.au.

Oxford St Market Results

So, yesterday my Mum and I sat all day in a windy marquee/tent at the park on Oxford Street in Leederville, selling my Polyclarific wares. Well, when I say selling I mean showing them to people and hoping they would buy them. It started off very slow and the day was slow overall which is why I was so surprised to discover that I’d actually made a similar amount to the Made On The Left market a few weeks back.

As a vendor I would say that the market was not well advertised or set up. We had to put the marquees up (and take them down) ourselves and they did nothing for the wind really. The event was obviously not advertised as widely as MOTL and it seems that most people came because they happened to be in Leederville and stumbled across it.

I can’t say however that I did not enjoy the day. It was nice to sit there and chat to Lotta (of PrincessLotta who I shared a tent with) and my Mum and I even had a long visit by Sarah. It wasn’t too bad temperature wise and I must admit, it was nice to have a child free day (for the most part) with thanks to my wonderful hubby and parents in law. Here’s some shots from the day;

Mix Tape Article

I was very exited that an article I wrote for Mix Tape Zine was published this month. I received my copy in the post the other day and thought I’d share the article on here. I wrote about sharing your creativity with your kids and being creative around them. I was pleased to see that my little article was in colour. I told K that her photo was in this book when it came in the mail and she was very surprised to see it. So, here it is;

Cafepress shop now open

I have been thinking about putting my sketches onto products for a while now. Finally the other day I was sitting here and thought about my old cafepress shop. I had uploaded a couple of images in there about a year and a half ago but then done nothing more. Well, now it’s full to the brim with items carrying my sketches, I just need to name the items better and give descriptions. In the meantime, the images you will find on my items are below.

You can buy clothing, baby and children’s items, office products, cards, stickers, ornaments and buttons etc…. If I get organised I might even upgrade and create a premium shop. One day I’d love to be able to have these things printed up locally or made myself, that way I can bring them along to markets to sell. For now, with a young family and limited time this will do. So, pop on over and take a look the link is:

There are a few other choices in store but this will do for now.

Custom Orders

This week I’ve been busy doing some custom orders and it does seem that sales in general are picking up with the silly season. So far this week I’ve made some life size liquorice All Sorts and some roses. I’ve got half the roses to do still in different colours. I’m thinking I might turn these roses (obviously not these ones but make some more) into brooches and rings to put in my shop, might be popular.

Featured

Posting photos of my little Christmas trees on facebook the other day led to them being featured on the very popular Polymer Clay Daily blog run by Cynthia Tinapple. Its always exciting to be featured and she said some really encouraging things about my work. Here’s a screen cap of the write up;

I also have an article in the current edition of Mix Tape zine which focuses on sharing my art passion with my children. This issue is all about kids and babies so I’m looking forward to seeing it. I haven’t seen the feature yet as I’m awaiting my copy of the zine in the post but when it arrives I’ll put a shot of it on here.

Christmas in our place

So. It’s here. Christmas season that is. This has been such a mad year for us that I figured I would know the madness has stopped when the tree is up. Well our tree is up and yes, the madness has almost come to a grinding halt. Never again in one year do I want to do so many things at once. Between us we travelled to Sydney twice (SIM), Victoria once (baby), Adelaide once (wedding), Peru, Chile, Japan and the USA (all SIM), not to mention packing up our house whilst pregnant, moving into our new place and having L, all in between every day life. The Made on the left market is done, Go! Reachout is over and there is just the Oxford Street markets left (this Saturday) as far as events go. The tree is up, now I can relax (remind me what relaxing is again).

Putting up our tree had a different spin on it this year….K. K is now three and therefore Christmas is starting to be exciting. She is obsessed with snowmen and Christmas trees (not that she has ever seen snow) and I think she considers anything Christmassy to be a Christmas tree including Father Christmas (gonna have to work on that one). This is our first Christmas in our new house and L’s first Christmas too so it’s a special one.

m_img_2266.jpg

We do Christmas stockings in our house as an extra way to think of the little things for other family members. This year I bought the girls a new one each and they match. K’s has a snowman of course!

Finally, I have started making some ornaments to sell at the market this weekend. I didn’t want to be too ‘crafty’ in my approach and waited for an original idea to hit me. Here’s what I came up with:

Hopefully these will sell at the market and if not I’ll put them in my online store.

Underneath all this seasonal decorative-ness I can’t say that I feel particularly festive. I’m not too sure why but the writing of Christmas cards and the attendance at our church’s gingerbread house night just hasn’t put me in the Christmas mood. I’m sure something will make it click at some point but in the meantime its fun to watch my daughters as they marvel at the lights, tinsel and commercial craziness. Somewhere in there (usually each night at bedtime) we are managing to get the true meaning of Christmas in.
