This is a painting I really like but when I presented it to my lecturer at uni a few years ago he said ‘oh, the lost child theme, it’s been done to death, do something else’. This isn’t the lost child so much as the lonley child and it was inspired by our vist to Africa. Too bad if it’s been done to death, I still love it!!

Why are teachers so obtuse? Why couldn’t your lecturer have commented on the value of your work instead of dismissing it. Some artists would argue that originality is not what art is about, but truthful expression. This is absolutely beautiful, and expresses the loneliness acutely. Excellent work Amanda.

You made me remember why I was so eager to graduate from art school. They almost beat the joy of creating out of me. Glad I’ve found it again!
It’s a moving and sadly beautiful painting. You can paint and depict whatever you choose.

Don’t trust at your teacher - at least not in this case. It’s a beautiful image.
