We went to our first one last night! I must admit that ever since I lived with a pregnant woman years ago I have been put off going to these classes. She came home with stories of videos they showed her and her hubby of deliveries and C-sections etc… and I wasn’t looking forward to it.
I suppose it wasn’t too bad. We did learn some things. My only complaint (and this seems really dumb) is that I had to sit on a beanbag in front of Michael who got to sit on a chair. For some reason the lady in charge must think that a beanbag is comfy for a 6 month pregnant person. It’s not. Oh well. Only five classes to go and so far no traumatic birth videos!
Well, we managed to pull it off! A suprise party for my hubby Michael. I planned it weeks ago with my scheming Mum. It went so well, he had no clue. He thought we were going over to my parents for a quiet family meal for his birthday (which was last weekend) and to watch the Wallabies play the Springboks. Well, little did he know that there were 20 people stashed in my parents lounge room and he was in shock when they all yelled ‘SUPRISE!’ at him when he walked in the room. Ahhh, I love it when a plan comes together.
Browsing the bbc news site I found this article about the food crisis in Niger. Has anyone out there heard of the country Niger before? Not Nigeria…Niger, different country. We spent 1 year there in 2000 to 2001 and I found this article so sad. We’ve been to Maradi and in fact SIM has a large base there working in agriculture and church planting so it’s very sad to hear about how many are dying from a lack of food.
Michael with some kids at a school near Maradi. These kids will be ok as they are in an SIM based school but it’s kids like these that are dying there.
This is the landscape, very dry, nothing much grows there.
We lived in the UK for 6 months in 2000 and we also visited there in 1998 so these blasts really hit home for us. We recognise a lot of the stations that have been targeted. Here is a shot from our time there:

This is Michael at 221b Baker St (Sherlock Holmes House) which is around 1 block from the blast at Edgewater Road.
I think I’m on the downhill run for this cold. I really hate having a cold. Sore throats and sunburnt shoulders top the list of my personal pet hates! I’m sure no one likes either of those actually. Anyway, my sore throat is gone and my nose has stopped a bit but I’m still rugging up and taking it easy for today, got to hit it on the head so it doesn’t drag out!
Yes, it was inevitable really that I would end up with my hubby’s throat infection/head cold. I’ve been avoiding it the best I can for the last week but now that his is clearing up I’ve started with the sore throat! What’s really bad is that if it does turn into a full blown cold, I can’t take anything for it while I’m pregnant! Yuck. All I’m allowed to do is gargle salt water - great.
It’s my hubby’s 30th birthday today! Happy Birthday Michael. Love you lots. Unfortunately he’s got a head cold today so the celebrations have been put off to another day.
