Why does this blog exist?

It’s hard to believe that a month has nearly gone by since I set up this blog (28th of December to be exact). While I have had many ideas (I even setup a section in my notebook to record them) I haven’t got around to posting them. It appears I may be following the example of Greg at Userfriendly by not posting. For those who are not UF’ies I have reproduced the strips from the 9th, 10th and 11th of January :-

These strips plus a post from Performancing (makers of an excellent firefox plugin for blogging) got me thinking about a post entitled ‘Why does this blog exist?’

I suppose as performancing notes I started this blog with the idea of journalling random thoughts and making them public. My hope is that my blog will be a way I can keep in contact with friends and possibly make new ones. I have seen how my wife’s blog has helped here do just this and I think its time for me to get in on the act so to speak. Time will tell whether I keep up with the posts or soon beome another ex-blogger:-)

Anyhow one blogger has setup a site asking the question ‘why do you blog?‘. If you fill in his survey you have a chance to win an ipod shuffle.

Checking out some wordpress features.

Just posting this to checkout some of WordPress’ features. (WordPress is the software behind this blog). The other great thing is the in-line spell checking I now have because I am running  Firefox 2.0 (something which is rather cool since my spelling is atrocious).

PM, Citizenship, Kiwis, Cricket and why I am a cricket tragic.

I’m not sure how well you do at Trivial Pursuit, but our PM assures us that the new citizenship test won’t be as tough as knowing ‘what … the record for the eighth wicket at the W.A.C.A. [is]’. Being a bit of a cricket tragic myself I actually wondered what the answer was - a fact not given away by the PM in his interview. Armed with the modern marvel of the Internet I quickly stumbled upon cricinfo records and with a few clicks got to the page Highest Test Partnerships at the W.A.C.A. Ground, Perth. Well you could have knocked me over with an underarm tennis ball when I discovered that the highest 8th wicket partnership in a test match at the W.A.C.A. was actually made by two kiwis Adam Parore and Nathan Astle in 2001. Unlike the current Ashes series which looks like being a 5-0 whitewash the series ended up being drawn 0-0.
I must admit to not remembering much about the 2001 series despite being in Australia at the time. (Conversely I know exactly where I was when Australia lost at Edgebaston in 2005 an event that seems like it will forever be etched into my mind). Then again the only player I know of from New Zealand is Daniel Vettori because he looks like my other Kiwi mate Kevin (pronounced in kiwi as Keeeveen). That and the Beige Brigade’s love of the old Benson and Hedges one day uniform. The funny thing is every time I see ‘that kit’ it reminds me of my brown summer pajama’s I used to have as a kid.
Anyhow reading back over my rambling post I think I’ve just started to understand why I’m called ‘a cricket tragic’ by some of me mates :-)
UPDATE: You can find a copy of the PM’s press conference describing the new citizenship test requirements here.
